The film
Douce Nuit is the first short film of Carnages’ professional era. Written and directed in 2015 by Emmanuel Delabaere, it was shot in a house in the Lot-et-Garonne after a successful crowdfunding campaign under its working title, « Le Père Noël a les boules ». The group’s original team was joined by cinematographer FX Faidy and professional actors Olivier Faursel (Santa Claus) and Paul Spera (the young man). The shoot took place over two nights in April 2015, then resumed in August in the studio with Molière nominee Gregory Corre as the elf. Once completed, the film went on a festival run and brought back many awards and selections.
What we brought
Shot in the spring of 2015, just a few weeks after Carnages was founded, it brought together the whole original crew, the one from the student association born at the IUT in Le Puy-en-Velay in the late 90s. Emmanuel Delabaere, a founding member, directed it and Julien Ivanowich produced it. All the old-timers showed up around them: Yann Gaborieau, Nicolas Dubois, Frédéric Wenling and Jean-Baptiste Charbonnier shared sound, locations, camera, organisation and the clapperboard.
We found the house in Duras, in the Lot-et-Garonne. We shot it in two nights, two very long nights: rehearsals and set-up during the day, takes until dawn. The elf came later, in September, in front of a blue screen in Paris.
It is also the film of first encounters. Fx Faidy, who had answered an ad on a film forum, was our cinematographer. Paul Spera, Olivier Faursel and Gregory Corre came through casting. The last two became regulars: Olivier is back in Ultimate Chabite, where he plays Jacques Capra, and Gregory in Blondie Maxwell, then Ultimate Chabite.
